Position Overview
Reporting to the BEA Executive Director, with a dotted line to the BEA Foundation President, the Managing Director will be responsible for overseeing the operations, investments, and strategic plan of the BEA Entrepreneurs Fund. The successful candidate will be passionate and knowledgeable about building multi-generational wealth through investments in Black-owned businesses. This is an opportunity to leverage the networks, expertise, and input of some of America’s most successful Black business leaders across industries in an effort to build wealth for Black founders, businesses, and communities. The successful candidate will not only spend years building a successful investment fund, but they will also build relationships with an unprecedented cohort of Black executives and Black businesses that will collectively change the course of economic mobility for the current generation of Black founders and entrepreneurs.
Key responsibilities include leading research on relevant markets and industries, developing investment strategies, sourcing and screening new investment opportunities. The role will lead all deal structuring, negotiation and execution as well as cultivating, developing and maintaining relationships with the Fund’s portfolio companies. In addition to supporting business needs for the Fund’s portfolio companies, the Managing Director will maintain relationship and build trust with investors. The role will work with senior BEA leaders on fund strategy, marketing, investment ideas and deal execution. This leader will inspire confidence and ideally have both a track record from large traditional institutional finance and mission aligned funds serving communities in need.

Duties
- Perform market research and identify new investment trends and opportunities
- Deal sourcing: meet in person or virtually with prospects to evaluate opportunities
- Documentation: summarize call notes and enter deals into customer relationship management database
- Network with peers in the industry to source deals and identify opportunities to collaborate
- Perform Due Diligence
- Identify, evaluate and gather information on the target companies and from industry experts
- Research portfolio company value by reviewing business plans, analyzing capital expenditures, and performing financial valuation, a variety of quantitative analysis and sophisticated financial modelling
- Research and interview technical/business consultants to evaluate the target company’s technology including IPS
- Research and engage with references, customers and competitors of the target company
- Conduct background checks on the current management of the target company
- Lead transaction execution, negotiation and implementation
- Prepare internal investment memos for leadership
Qualifications
- Large Institutional Experience: traditional finance, VC/PE and/or investment banking
- Mission-Focused Funds Background: experience and/or exposure to mission-focused funds
- Thought Leadership: ability to influence and ideate at leadership level with stakeholders, institutions and marketplace
- Network of Businesses: potential candidate businesses for investment

- Must embrace the mission and objectives of the Black Economic Alliance
- MBA from an accredited business school
- 5+ years of investment experience (VC/PE, investment banking, private equity)
- Outstanding analytical skills, detail-oriented, proactive, innovative and self-motivated
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel including advanced functions
- Experience with cash flow modeling and investment valuation techniques
- Capability to produce well designed professional PowerPoint presentations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Personality to work with various internal and external senior influential leaders
- Strong entrepreneurial mindset
- Ability to build and manage a high performance team
Salary/Benefits
Base Salary + Bonus + Carry. Competitive/commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This is a full-time position. The BEA Entrepreneurs Managing Director will be based in the United States. The preference is for this position to reside NYC or Washington, DC.
