WASHINGTON – (April 7, 2022) – Today, the Black Economic Alliance (BEA), a nonpartisan group of Black business leaders, issued the following statement on the Senate’s confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States:
“We applaud the Senate’s bipartisan confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States. This historic moment demonstrates material progress toward the establishment of a more inclusive and resilient democracy.
“It is crucial to have Black women at all levels of government, and we know that Judge Jackson has the experience, wisdom, and fundamental understanding of the Constitution that will bring a much-needed perspective to the nation’s highest court. Decisions made by the Supreme Court impact all Americans, and Judge Jackson’s lived and professional experiences will help ensure the Court takes into account equity and fairness on matters pertaining to civil rights and liberties.
“Judge Jackson’s fair, balanced, and inclusive approach to jurisprudence represents the exact leadership and principles necessary to rebuild Americans’ trust in the highest court of the land. The Black Economic Alliance is proud to have been part of the large community of organizations that supported Judge Jackson’s confirmation to the Supreme Court, ensuring that a supremely qualified Black woman obtains a lifetime appointment as a Justice for the first time in the Court’s more than 230-year history.”
